Privacy Policy
Effective from: 5 November 2026. Last updated: 5 November 2026.
See also our Terms of Use.
1. Who we are
Field & Market is published by Amerigo GmbH, Basteiplatz 5, 8001 Zürich, Switzerland ("Amerigo", "we", "us" or "our"). We decide why and how your personal data is used for Field & Market, so we are its data controller.
You can reach us about anything in this policy at info@amerigoadvisory.ch, by phone on +41 77 415 56 42, or by post at the address above.
2. What this policy covers
Field & Market is a free weekly brief on coffee-growing regions: rain, soil water, greenness seen from satellites, the weather forecast, fires nearby and local prices. This policy covers:
- the weekly brief and its frost alerts, the buyer brief, and the web version of each;
- the Field & Market pages on amerigoadvisory.ch, including the Subscribe, Preferences and Unsubscribe pages;
- the farm report form, where you can ask for a report on your own plots;
- the invitations we send to people who have not subscribed yet.
UnitedTradestation, the trading platform run by the same company, has its own privacy policy. It applies when you register or trade there.
3. What we collect
We collect only what we need to send you the brief and to talk with you about coffee trade. Depending on how you came to us, this can be:
- Your contact details: email address, name, organisation, your role (for example farmer, cooperative manager, exporter, importer, roaster or trader), country, language, and your phone number if you gave it to us.
- What you follow: the regions you chose, any watched area of your cooperative, the suppliers you follow if you read the buyer brief, whether frost alerts are on, and your cooperative if you belong to one.
- Your consent record: the date and time you agreed, the version of the consent wording you were shown, how you reached the page (an invitation email, a personal link from our team, the farm report form, or our team recording that you agreed in a conversation), and the IP address your request came from at that moment.
- Farm report requests: the pins or plot outlines you draw or upload, their names, the regions you chose, the IP address the request came from, and any soil test results your cooperative sends us for those plots.
- Email events and web views: see section 8.
- Our notes: notes our team makes after talking with you, the date we last spoke, and where you stand with us (for example "in conversation" or "trading").
We also receive technical data that your browser sends whenever you visit our pages ("usage data"): your IP address, browser type and version, the page you open and the time of the visit. Our web server keeps this in its logs.
We do not collect payment details, identity documents or passwords from readers. We do not use device identifiers, tracking pixels or advertising tools.
4. Where your details come from
- From you, when you subscribe, ask for a farm report, change your preferences or write to us.
- From conversations with our team, when you agreed by phone, in person, at an event or by message to receive the brief. Our team then records that agreement for you.
- From public business sources, such as public company directories and coffee trade lists. These give us the business contact details of coffee companies, cooperatives and farms: a company name, its location, and the name, work email or work phone of a contact there.
- From your cooperative, when it asks us to send its members the brief for its own area or sends us soil test results.
5. Invitations and your right to object
If your business details come from a public source or from our team, we may invite you to Field & Market once, by email or by WhatsApp, and send one reminder about a week later. After that we write nothing more unless you subscribe. Invitation emails come from a named member of our team.
Every invitation email has a "No more emails" link that stops all our emails to you in one click. Every WhatsApp invitation ends with "Reply STOP and I won't write again"; when you reply STOP, our team marks you as not to be contacted.
You can object at any time to our use of your details for invitations or follow-up, without giving a reason, by using those links or by writing to info@amerigoadvisory.ch. We then stop, and we keep your address only on our suppression list (see section 13) so that you are not contacted again, even if your details appear in another list later.
6. What we use your data for
- To send you the weekly brief, the frost alerts you have switched on, and the farm reports you ask for;
- To let you change your regions, suppliers or language, and to unsubscribe;
- To tell you about changes to Field & Market;
- To answer your questions and give support;
- To understand which parts of the brief are read, so we can improve it;
- To find and fix technical problems, and to stop abuse of our forms;
- To keep proof of your consent and to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
- To invite people as described in section 5;
- To follow up with readers who show interest, for example by clicking a link, including about buying or selling coffee on UnitedTradestation.
We do not sell your data, and we do not make decisions about you by automated means that have legal or similarly important effects on you.
7. Our legal grounds
We use your data under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection and, where it applies to you, the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation. We rely on these grounds:
- Consent: for sending you the weekly brief, frost alerts and the welcome brief after you subscribe. You can withdraw your consent at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email; this does not affect what we did before.
- Providing the service you asked for: for preparing and sending a farm report you requested, and for your preferences and unsubscribe pages.
- Our legitimate interests: for inviting business contacts once with one reminder, for following up with interested readers, for understanding which parts of the brief are read, for support, for keeping our pages working and safe, and for legal claims. We weigh these interests against yours, and you can object at any time (section 5).
- Legal obligations: where the law requires us to keep or disclose data.
You can ask us for more information about how we weighed our legitimate interests by writing to info@amerigoadvisory.ch.
8. Email events and web views
When we send you an email, we record:
- whether it was sent or failed;
- when you click a link in it;
- when you open the web version of a brief (once per brief);
- hard bounces (the address does not exist), spam complaints and unsubscribes reported by our email provider.
We do not record whether you open an email. We do not ask our email provider to report opens and we do not store them.
A bounce, a spam complaint or an unsubscribe stops all further emails to that address at once.
9. Cookies and maps
Cookies are small files stored on your device by a website. You can set your browser to refuse cookies or to tell you when one is sent.
Field & Market uses no advertising cookies and no analytics cookies. It uses at most these two cookies, both set by amerigoadvisory.ch only:
| Cookie | Who gets it | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
fm_reader_session | A subscribed reader who opens their brief from one of our emails. | Remembers this browser, so the footer of the Field & Market pages can lead you back to your latest brief, your settings and unsubscribe. It holds a signed code and nothing else: no name and no email address. Nothing is recorded when it is set or read. | Up to 30 days. Opening a brief from a new email starts the 30 days again. It ends at once if you unsubscribe. |
fm_console_session | Only our team and invited cooperative agronomists, after they sign in to our console. | Keeps them signed in. | 30 days from sign-in, or until they sign out. |
To remove the reader cookie, press "Forget this browser" in the footer of any Field & Market page, or delete cookies for amerigoadvisory.ch in your browser settings. The brief and the links in your emails work the same without it.
Maps. Some of our pages show a map, such as the web version of the brief and the farm report form. Your browser loads the map pictures directly from OpenStreetMap (tile.openstreetmap.org) and, for the satellite layer of the farm report form, from EOX (tiles.maps.eox.at). Those services then receive your IP address and the part of the map you look at. They set no cookies through our pages.
10. Who we share data with
Your information is not sold, rented or traded to anyone. We share it only as described here.
Service providers who process data for us under contract and only on our instructions:
| Provider | What it does for us | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Brevo (Sendinblue SAS) | Sends the weekly brief, buyer brief and frost alerts to subscribers, and reports clicks, bounces, spam complaints and unsubscribes back to us. Brevo never receives invitations. | France (EU) |
| Infomaniak Network SA | Our mail server: sends invitations, reminders, farm report emails and our replies to you. Also hosts the server that runs Field & Market and stores its data. | Switzerland |
| WhatsApp (Meta) | Carries a WhatsApp invitation, only when a member of our team writes to you there by hand. | See WhatsApp's own privacy policy |
Within our group. UnitedTradestation is run by Amerigo GmbH as well. If you register there, your Field & Market history may be linked to your account so that we know how you found the platform.
Other cases. We may also disclose your information if the law requires it, or if we believe disclosure is needed to protect the rights, property or safety of our readers or others.
11. Public data sources
The brief is built from public weather, satellite, soil, forest and price data, for example from Copernicus, NASA, MET Norway, the Climate Hazards Center, ISRIC SoilGrids, the EU Joint Research Centre, the World Bank and national price agencies. To read data for a region or for the plots in a farm report, our server sends these services coordinates only. We never send them your name, email address or any other detail about you.
When we import a list of business contacts, we may look up a town name with OpenStreetMap Nominatim to find the nearest region. We send only the town and the country, never a person's name or address.
12. Data outside Switzerland
We store Field & Market data in Switzerland. Our bulk email provider works in the European Union, which Switzerland recognises as giving an adequate level of protection. Where a provider handles data in another country, such as WhatsApp, we rely on that provider's safeguards approved under Swiss and EU law, such as standard contractual clauses. You can ask us for a copy of the safeguards at info@amerigoadvisory.ch.
13. How long we keep it
We keep your personal data only as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy, and longer only where the law requires it or to resolve disputes and enforce our agreements.
- While you are subscribed, we keep your details, what you follow and your email events.
- When you unsubscribe, all emails stop at once and for good. We keep your address only in a coded, one-way form on a suppression list, so we never email it again, even if it appears in a later list. We also keep your consent record as proof of what you agreed to and when it ended.
- When you ask us to erase your data, we delete your contact details, your farm report plots and soil tests, and our notes about you. Only the coded form of your address stays on the suppression list, and your past email events stay without anything that links them to you.
- Invited contacts who never subscribe: we keep their business details so that we do not invite them twice, until they ask us to remove them.
- Farm report requests that are not confirmed by email are deleted after 48 hours. The download link of a report works for 30 days.
- Brief files: the PDF files of a brief are kept 8 weeks and the web version of a brief opens for 8 weeks.
- Web server logs are kept for 14 days.
14. Security
The security of your data is important to us, but no way of sending or storing data over the internet is completely secure. We use reasonable measures to protect it, and our pages use encrypted connections (you can recognise them by "https://" in your browser's address bar).
The links in our emails are signed, so they cannot be changed to open someone else's brief, and they expire. Only our team and invited agronomists can sign in to our console, with a one-time code or a password, and agronomists see only their own cooperative's areas, never your contact details.
15. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal data we hold about you and give you a copy;
- correct it;
- delete it;
- limit how we use it;
- give you the data you gave us in a common electronic format;
- stop using it for invitations, follow-up or other purposes based on our legitimate interests;
- withdraw your consent at any time.
You can do much of this yourself: every email has an unsubscribe link and a link to your preferences, where you can change your regions, suppliers, language and frost alerts. For anything else, write to info@amerigoadvisory.ch. We may ask you to confirm your identity first, and we answer within 30 days.
Your right to complain to a data protection authority is not affected. In Switzerland this is the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC). In the EU or UK, it is the authority where you live, work, or where you think a breach happened.
16. Children
Field & Market is a business service for people aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger. If you think we hold data about a child, write to us and we will delete it.
17. If the business changes hands
If Amerigo GmbH, or the part of it that runs Field & Market, is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, your personal data may be transferred. This policy will continue to protect it, and we will tell you before it becomes subject to a different policy.
18. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page with a new date at the top, and for important changes we will tell subscribers by email before they take effect.
19. Questions and complaints
If you have a question or a complaint about this policy, or think we have not kept to it, write to us at info@amerigoadvisory.ch or to Amerigo GmbH, Basteiplatz 5, 8001 Zürich, Switzerland. We will do our best to put things right promptly.
